Vernon "Vern" Wright, commonly referred to by his grandchildren as "Gramps", is the grandfather of Nate and Ellen Wright. He is the father of Martin Wright and Theodore Wright and the husband of Marge Wright.

Vernon Wright was born sometime in 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio. According to Vern, he worked very hard while he was young. He met Marge Wright in high school,
Marriage[]
Vern Wright married Marge Wright sometime before 1974, given the fact Marty is 46 years old. It is unknown when he was married, though it is known they got engaged after the dance they both attended.
Marty's Birth[]
Marty was born sometime in 1974, and Marty is known to have attended a movie with his friends at least more than once, Marty also was not active, as he claimed to be later on; as Vernon said that he stayed inside to play with Legos. Sometime in Marty's Highschool years, he dated Mindy Glickstein, to Vern's knowledge, is unknown. Eventually, Marty did break up with her. Eventually, sometime in Marty's later life, he dated and married Nate's mother, who divorced him but still gave birth to two children, Nate Wright, and Ellen Wright, making Vern a grandfather.
Later life[]
In his later life, Vern did become lazier and was prescribed pills by his doctor for an unknown cause, though Vern did ignore his health, much to the annoyance of his wife, Marge Wright. Many examples of this are since in the strip, when he admits he had a kidney stone, sometime before 2020.
When he chaperoned for Nate's field trip to an art museum, Ken Rosa asked him if he has any interest in art. This resulted in Vern pulling up his shirt and saying "I've got a tattoo here that is quite a masterpiece". Later on, Vern became angry with the cashier at a gift shop, since he was expecting them to sell Junior Mints at the gift shop. Marge needed him and eventually tracked him down at a gift shop wanting some Junior Mints.

As you can see, Vern and Marge are married. They had 2 children together (Marty and Ted) and have been dating since high school. Even though some parts of their relationship seem a little bumpy. They are on good terms.
Marty Wright[]
Marty is Vern's son, and of course, has a natural love for him. Vern like to tease him about a lot of stuff, but they are still on good terms.

- Vern first appeared on February 21, 1999.
- On July 17, 2020, he said he was 80, which makes him 83 in 2023. He was born in 1940.
- Vern has a big scar and a tattoo somewhere near his stomach due to him getting injured in woodwork classes when he was attending school.
- Vern is very fanatic about the game show known as "Wheel of Fortune".
- Nate Wright showed him Oil Painting with Rusty to teach him to paint better.
- He gets frustrated when he can't do the jumble.
- Vern used to be a lightweight boxer.
